Jason Cooper - FAS Head Coach and Firbank Grammar Director of Swimming

Silver Licenced Coach

Jason has more than 25 years of experience coaching swimmers at all levels from Learn-to-Swim to National Age and Open Athletes.  He is a former National Team member who swam at the 1989 Pan Pacific Games (2 bronze medals); 1990 Commonwealth Games (Gold and Bronze Medallist) and the 1991 World Championships (finalist).  Jason has also been awarded an Australian Sports Medal (2001) for his outstanding contribution to sport. 

Jason is married with 3 children, a dog, and 5 chickens.  His children attend Firbank Grammar (Sandringham House and Senior School).

Ian Scott - Senior Swim Coach

Silver Licenced Coach 

Ian has more than 10 years of coaching experience, including time here in Melbourne and in Northwest England.  He was assistant Head Coach for the City of Carlisle (2011-2012) and Club Captain from 2004-2006.  He has competed at the regional level in England and placed top 10 in the 1500m Freestyle at Scottish Nationals.

Ian has a degree in Sport Studies and Sports Development, which focused on coaching sport in the community as well as organising and delivering inter-school competitions.

Narelle Wane - Assistant National and State Squad Coach

Silver Licenced Coach 

Narelle has more than 15 years of coaching experience at all levels including Masters and Tri athletes.  She started swimming competitively at the age of 8 ans was a member of Melbourne Vicentre for nearly 10 years.  She has achieved Age National qualifying times and won state medals for Breastroke events and relays.  Narelle has also competed in Surf Lifesaving, Cross Country running, athletics and various other school sports.  Recently, she has enjoyed swimming as a Masters Swimmer and has competed in various open water swims, fun runs and just competed the Gold Coast Marathon.

Narelle is married with 3 children.  Her children attend Mentone Grammar and her daughter currently attends Mentone Girls Grammar.  They all have shown a keen interest in swimming, with Lucinda being one of the younger Firbank Aquastars members.  Narelle enjoys running, horse riding, keeping fit, holidays away with the family and the odd spot of shopping!!

 

 

Paul McDermott - Junior Development Squad Coach

Silver Licenced Coach 

Paul has over 25 years teaching/coaching experience, including 10 years at Firbank Grammar as assistant coach to former FAS Head coaches Alwyn Barrett and Angus Barnes (1998-2008).  He has experience across all levels of swimming and was coach of the Brighton Grammar Senior School Swim Team from 2000-2005.  Paul was also on the coaching staff of the Swimming Victoria Age Group Development Squads from 1998-2004.

Paul has 3 older sisters who are all teachers, and an older brother who coaches an Under-21 boat crew at North Cottesloe SLSC in WA.  Paul has a keen interest in Permaculture and music and keeps fit with regular swimming, cycling and the occasional round of golf.

 

 

Joss Reinshagen - Assistant Junior Gold Squad Coach

Bronze Licenced Coach 

Joss has more than 17 years of coaching pre-schoolers through Junior Squad Level.  She also coaches, Netball, Basketball, Volleyball and Softball in addition to conducting gym and personal training sessions for varying fitness levels.

Joss has numeorus sporting achevements including competing in the 1995 National Masters Games (swimming Silver Medallist in the Medley Relay); competing in the 2000 World Masters Games (netball Silver Medallist); Pan Pacific Masters Games (netball 2006 Bronze medallist, 2008 Silver medallist, and 2010 Bronze medallist).  She has also competed the Pier to Perignon 4 km open water event (2010) and the Bloody Big 10 km open water event (2011).

Joss is married with 3 children, enjoys traveling, and is very active and numerous sports including open water swimming (but only in the summer).

 

 

Nick Findeisen - Junior Green and Novice Squad Coach

Bronze Licenced Coach - with SWD Extension

Nick has more than 7 years of coaching experience from Learn-to-Swim to State Qualifying Swimmers.  He is a Primary and Secondary School Coach with success across all levels including School State Champions and numerous medal winners.

Nick is an accomplished swimmer and currently swims with the FAS National Squad.  He is a multiple Open National Finalist and Semi-Finalist; has qualified at an Open National level across all strokes and distances from 50m to 1500m.  He is a 3x Victorian State Champion, multiple State Silver and Bronze Medallist in all strokes and distances.  Nick has also competed in a number of other sports including: Tennis, Cricket, Hockey, Athletics, Waterpolo, Aussie Rules, and Golf.

Nick and his 3 siblings have all swam (or are still swimming) with FAS.  All 4 Findeisens have received 10 year service awards and are current (or former) FAS record holders.  He enjoys watching, reading, and playing sports of all sorts and is not scared to admit that he is a Demons Supporter!
